Introducing the Maverick Awards
One of the reasons I love having such an active Facebook Group attached to the Badgebook, is that I can learn first-hand what Rebels enjoy doing, and how they want to be challenged. Multiple Rebels mentioned regretting never completing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards as teenagers. Similarly, you can only complete your Queen’s Scout and Queen’s Guide badges up until the age of 25 in the UK. Many Rebels were asking for a Rebel equivalent award - something which takes multiple months to complete, and feels like a real achievement. And so I began thinking, and may have watched Top Gun during the process … and the Bronze, Silver and Gold Maverick Awards were born.
These Awards are only available to adults. And to make sure you are serious about completing them, you have to officially register on the shop before you can start counting anything towards the Awards. You MUST do them in order (because there are no upper age limits) so at the moment only Bronze is available. Once some Rebels have begun completing Bronze (in around 6 months time) I will announce Silver and open it for registration, and then Gold at a later stage.
Bronze is designed to take at least six months. As you will see from the next post, it is split into 5 key areas - My Community, My Beliefs, My Skills, My Adventure and My Challenge. You set the challenges for yourself - you choose what skills you want to improve, and what goals you want to achieve - so it should be accessible to all.
Unlike the other badges in Rebel Badge Book, the Mavericks will be assessed - your sign up fee is designed to cover this. You will get a log book where you need to record your activities, and then submit this log book to me when you finish the award. There will also be presentations you can attend to get your award. Once you have completed the award you will be able to purchase fabric and metal badges - the metal badges will be individually numbered on the back!
Enjoy! And challenge yourself :)
